Hall Director for a Male Residence Hall

(Part-time)

The Residence Hall Director is a member of the Department of Housing and Residence Life Professional Staff and reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life.  Primary areas of responsibility include: staff supervision, training and development and student development and programming.


This 10-month position has overall responsibility for a male residence hall housing college freshman and sophomores.  Residence Hall Directors are challenged to:

·      maintain a positive living-learning environment in the residence halls that supports the college's mission

·      establish and foster staff training, development, and community building in addition to mentoring students

·      intervene in student conduct violations and investigate incidents and issues of disciplinary actions.

 

The position requires primarily evening duties; candidates are permitted to have other daytime commitments. Bachelor's degree, demonstrated leadership ability, strong organization and management skills, assertive and empathetic communication style, and experience with college residence life are strongly preferred.  Position to begin on August 1, 2012.  Remuneration:

·    Stipend paid monthly for the period of August 2012 through May 2013

·    Furnished apartment with cable, local phone, voicemail and high speed internet access

Director of the Annual Fund

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

•   Plans, develops and implements a strategic plan of action with objectives, timelines and evaluation plans for the Annual Fund program that includes identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of constituents.

•   Creates and administers a program and activities to solicit gifts from trustees, alumni, parents and friends including personal solicitations, telemarketing, and mail programs for the Annual Fund.

•   Develops direct mail appeals, recruits and trains student phonathon callers. Additionally, the director manages activities and events associated with giving society members and other gift club societies for the Annual Fund.

•   Works closely with other departmental directors to ensure coordination with their respective fundraising efforts.

•   Uses development database and report writing software to retrieve data. Performs comprehensive analysis and manipulation related to all aspects of the annual fund program. Uses statistics to evaluate current Annual Fund programs and to make recommendations for program changes.

•   Thinks out of the box and makes quick recommendations in a very fluid environment.

•   Ensures open communication with Major Gift Officers regarding contact of potential donors.

•   Responsible for writing and evaluating Annual Fund program and reporting of program's progress to Board of Trustees.

•   Oversees the acknowledgment and recognition of all annual fund gifts, including the annual report to donors.

•   Represents annual fund issues and promotes community awareness and support for the annual fund program.

 

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

•   Bachelor's degree and two to five years of successful annual fund management experience.

•   Will demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices associated with fundraising in higher education including direct mail, telephone solicitations, reunion giving and donor relations.

•   In leading the annual fund effort, from strategizing to implementation to management of a creative staff, this Director will need mature management and communication skills, the ability to shepherd a targeted effort within a larger and more complex department, and the operational skills that ensure tactical project management.

•   Strong computer and analytical skills are required along with excellent writing skills.

•   The uniqueness of Spartanburg Methodist College requires understanding and appreciation to better cultivate donors on their own terms.

•   A results-oriented individual who demonstrates the ability to work well with people at all levels of an organization, warmly develops relationships with diverse constituencies, and simultaneously employs keen judgment has the best opportunity for success.
