SMC Paralegal Program Offering Title Search Class In Fall II Term

11/14/08 — Fall II Term Begins November 20th, Registration Underway

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SPARTANBURG, SC - One of the most popular courses in the Paralegal Program at Spartanburg Methodist College is being offered again this Fall.

The program's "Title Search I" will be offered on Thursday evenings during the Fall II term, which begins on November 20th and ends on February 12.  Tracie W. Haynie, a former student of the paralegal program, will be the instructor for this course, as well as Title Search II, which will begin in February, 2009.

"We are fortunate to have Tracie join our teaching staff; she has worked as a Real Estate Abstractor since 2001. Over the course of her career, she has provided title searches to multiple law firms, has served as a district trainer for an abstractor internship program,  and currently provides title searches for one of the top foreclosure firms in the Southeast, Rogers Townsend & Thomas in Columbia, SC," says Yvonne Harper, director of the Paralegal Program.

Over the course of the 10 week session, students in Title Search I will be introduced to the procedures involved in the title examination, will perform assigned title searches, and will be exposed to the interactions of probate law and civil action with title searching.

"Each year we open this course up to the public, since so many law firms and title companies are desperate for quality training for their staffs and simply don't have the luxury of training them once they are on the job. The $125 audit fee is not only affordable, but the convenience of the course starting at 5:30 p.m.  fits perfectly into most adult schedules," Harper adds.

"Students, legal staff, even retirees who want to learn how to research their family history, all rave about the benefits of this course, we are pleased to once again be able to provide this service to the community."

Additional courses offered this term include Advanced Legal Research and Writing, and Computers for the Law Office - both of which are offered on Tuesday evenings beginning November 18.

A total of 20 courses, with each course meeting 10 times, and a 40-hour internship are required for completion of SMC's Paralegal Certification Program. All legal specialty courses within the program are taught by local judges, attorneys and/or paralegals.

Courses can be audited by the general public for $125 per course.  An application to enroll in the Paralegal Certification Program, along with registration forms, can be found online by going to the Paralegal Program page at www.smcsc.edu.

Spartanburg Methodist College is in its 98th year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment.  More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
