SMC Co-Sponsoring, Hosting 2010 Economic Outlook Forum

SPARTANBURG, SC - Spartanburg Methodist College is partnering with the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce to present and host an economic outlook forum on Thursday, January 14 for members of the Chamber, as well as local business and industry leaders.
The event, called "Economic Outlook 2010: What lies ahead for the Nation and the Upstate? What about financial markets? Will a Great Recovery follow the Great Recession?," will be a lunch and learn presentation on financial markets and the national, regional and state economy.
" SMC is very pleased to offer this forum, which brings together two outstanding economists in the Upstate to offer their insights. SMC's role in the economic landscape of Spartanburg and the Upstate is considerable, and we are proud to join in the conversation that promotes the success of this region in this way,"says SMC president Dr. Colleen Keith.
Presenters include Mr. H. Daniel "Dan" Foster, president of the H. Daniel Foster Company and Dr. Bruce Yandle, dean emeritus of the College of Business and Behavioral Science at Clemson University. Foster is a former chairman of the SMC Board of Trustees, on which Yandle currently serves.

SMC will also be participating in the Chamber's Annual Economic Forecast Breakfast on Thursday on February 11 at USC Upstate, for which SMC will serve on the focus group for higher education.
The Chamber's Economic Forecast for 2010 will focus on the local economic trends and projections developed by Chamber members on 12 business sectors: Construction & Real Estate; Utilities & Telecommunications; Finance & Insurance; K-12 & Higher Education; Professional Services; Manufacturing; Retail; Government; Healthcare; Human Service & Non-Profit; Tourism & Recreation; and Transportation & Distribution.
