SMC Crowns 2009 Homecoming King, Queen

SPARTANBURG, SC - Spartanburg Methodist College announced its annual King and Queen at its 2009 Homecoming and Family Day on Saturday.
Brandon Hunter, a sophomore from Greenville, SC, was chosen as the 2009 Homecoming King. Hunter serves as President of the SMC Student Government Association for 2009-2010; is an SMC Ambassador; serves as assistant editor of the Olympian yearbook and a board member of the Kappa Sigma Alpha service fraternity; and is a member of the College's POPS programming board.
He is the son of Drico and Bridget Hunter, of Greenville.
Miranda Anthony, a sophomore from Rock Hill, SC, was chosen as the 2009 Homecoming Queen. Anthony is a member of the SMC Gospel Choir; serves as secretary for the POPS programming board; is a Resident Assistant; and is a member of the SMC Cheerleading squad.
She is the daughter of Rachel Anthony, of Rock Hill.
SMC celebrated its annual Homecoming and Family Day on Saturday with a wide range of events, including the coronation of King and Queen.
Hundreds of students and their families came out to enjoy the festivities, which included a talent show, games and outside activities, and a picnic with live music. The SMC tennis and baseball teams competed in scrimmage matches on campus, while the SMC volleyball team competed in a doubleheader at home against Wake Technical College.
The Homecoming and Family Day was kicked off by the Jeremy Vangsnes 5K Benefit Run, which raised more than $4,000 toward the medical costs of SMC alumnus Jeremy Vangsnes and two of his brothers who were involved in an automobile accident in July in Bozeman, MT. Vangsnes remains in a coma following the accident. His brothers Dan and Ryan were both injured in the accident also.
Spartanburg Methodist College is in its 99th academic year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
