01/23/09 — Exhibit On Display Through Feb. 10

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  The Mary Ellen Suitt Gallery at Spartanburg Methodist College is currently hosting the works of one of the College’s own instructors.

A 12-piece exhibit produced by SMC instructor Ann Wenz is currently on display in the gallery, through February 10.

The exhibit includes works from throughout Wenz’s career, a variety of pieces involving weaving and mixed media.

“This is a retrospective exhibit.  Some of the ideas stemmed from  courses that I took at the Arrowmont  School of Art and Design in Gatlinburg, TN,” says Wenz.

Wenz, who recently announced her retirement at the end of the current academic year, has served as an art instructor at SMC since 1975. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Western Michigan University and a Masters in Education from the University of South Carolina.

Her works have appeared in invitational exhibitions, as well as in local juried exhibitions, most recently in 2008 with the Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg. She is a two-time recipient of the Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg’s Merit Award.  Examples of her work can be found in collections at Daniel International in Greenville, SC; Spartanburg City Hall; the Spartanburg County Art Museum; Wachovia Bank of Spartanburg; and the Spartanburg Regional Heart Center.

She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Spartanburg Art Museum and is affiliated with the South Carolina Artisans Center in Walterboro, SC. and the Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg.

The Mary Ellen Suitt Gallery is located in the Marie Blair Burgess Library on the SMC campus. Hours of opreation are 8:30 am – 10 pm, Monday through Thursday; and 8:30 am – 1 pm on Friday.
