BLUESTAR Bluegrass Band to Play Monday at SMC

09/23/10

Spartanburg, SC - Spartanburg Methodist College will host a free concert of the all-star bluegrass band BLUESTAR on Monday night, Sept. 27, in Camak Auditorium as the first cultural event of the college's Centennial Celebration.

The concert starts at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm and tickets and parking are free.

Founded by acclaimed guitarist/arranger John Miller and bassist/ producer Mike Conner, the band includes two-time consecutive IBMA female vocalist of the year Dale Ann Bradley, current IBMA mandolin player of the year Jesse Brock, SPBGMA vocalist of the year nominee Steve Gulley, two-time IBMA songwriter of the year (and 3-time Grammy nominee) Greg Luck, two-time SPBGMA banjo player of the year Joey Cox, and two-time SPBGMA dobro player of the year Matt Leadbetter.

These eight stellar musicians have played and recorded with every top name in the business. Bluestar's members have traveled the road with Doyle Lawson, J D Crowe, Blue Highway, Lonesome River Band, Junior Sisk, Flamekeeper, Jimmy Martin, The Seldom Scene, Alison Krauss, Dan Tyminski, Mountain Heart, Rhonda Vincent, Larry Sparks, The Bluegrass Cardinals, Ralph Stanley, Kenny & Amanda Smith, IIIrd Tyme Out, The Country Gentlemen, Tony Rice, Ronnie Bowman, and more.

The band was formed after the joyful experience of recording the new project of songwriter, Rick Lang. Look to the Light: Songs of Faith was released in May 2010 on the Rural Rhythm Christian label, and rapidly became a "gospel recorded event" featuring some of the most renowned names in the Bluegrass genre. Look To The Light has received high praise from radio DJs, performers, and music industry leaders. This is a credit to all the wonderful singers and musicians who contributed to the album, especially the "creative genius" of co-producers Jesse Brock & John Miller.
