SMC Student Receives $1,000 ASIS International Scholarship

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -  A Spartanburg Methodist College student  was recently named the recipient of a scholarship awarded within the College's Criminal Justice program.
 
Sophomore Sarah Arms, of Travelers Rest, SC, has been awarded $1,000 by the Upstate chapter of ASIS International. ASIS International is the preeminent organization for security professionals, with more than 37,000 members worldwide.
 
A committee selected Arms based on the scholarship requirements and  Criminal Justice criteria.. ASIS requirements for the scholarship are that the student must be either full-time or part-time; they must have completed at least one year of study (30 credits); and they have at last a 3.0 GPA.

She will be graduating from SMC in Dec. with an Associate in Criminal Justice and an Associate Degree in Arts. Arms plans to transfer to a four-year institution and is yet undecided on an undergraduate major.

 While at SMC, Arms was a student-athlete on the women's cross country team and served as a member of Psi Beta psychology honor society, Sigma Kappa Delta English honors society, and Kappa Sigma Alpha service fraternity She was a both Dean's List and President's List honoree and has had various pieces published in Illusions, the College's fine arts magazine.
