SMC's 2010 Homecoming Will Include Fun For All

SPARTANBURG, SC - Spartanburg Methodist College will celebrate its 2010 Homecoming next week with a variety of activities for students, faculty, staff and alumni.
Traditionally held in October, SMC's Homecoming celebration has been moved to November in order to take advantage of the energies of the SMC fall athletic season and provide additional opportunities in which the SMC community can take part.
The 2010 Homecoming at SMC will also be a special one as it will be one of the first signature events tied in with the college's Centennial Celebration.
"We are very excited to move our annual Homecoming celebration to the basketball season and later in the Fall semester. There is much excitement on campus about the weekend. We have lots of events scheduled for students, alumni, parents, and friends of the college," says SMC's director of student activities and leadership development Kim Day.

Students will spend the week experiencing a wide range of activities on campus, including the 2010 SMC Idol competition on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 8 pm in Camak Auditorium. The entire SMC community and the general public are invited to attend.
The College is also sponsoring three service projects during Homecoming week which are open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and the general public. Those will include a Tuesday project to provide assistance at the United Way's Gifts In Kind facility; service work at Jesse Bobo Elementary School on Wednesday; and service work at Hatcher Garden on Thursday.
There will also be an Alumni Picnic at 3 pm on Saturday.
The week's events will culminate with the crowning of the SMC Homecoming King and Queen on Saturday, Nov. 13 during the halftime of the men's basketball game which starts at 4 pm.
Several athletic events will be taking place during Homecoming weekend, all of which are open to the general public and to which admission is free:
Friday, Nov. 12
- Women's basketball, 5:30 pm - vs. Atlanta Metro, in SMC's Bridges Arena
Saturday, Nov. 13
- Cross Country, 8 am - The SMC cross country teams will compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Cross Country National Championships at Milliken Research Campus in Spartanburg
- Baseball, 12 pm - The Pioneer baseball program will host an SMC Alumni Baseball game, featuring a wide range of SMC baseball alums including former major leaguer Reggie Sanders, at SMC's Mooneyham Baseball Field
- Men's Basketball, 4 pm - vs. Queen City Prep, in SMC's Bridges Arena

Spartanburg Methodist College is celebrating its 100th academic year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment.
