Esteemed Army Colonel to Address Incoming Freshman at Spartanburg Methodist College

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Colonel Drew R. Meyerowich, an active officer in the United States Army, will speak to Spartanburg Methodist College's incoming freshman class on Sunday, August 21st, 2011.

            Colonel Meyerowich was commissioned into the Army in 1987 upon graduation from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1987. He has served as an Infantry Commander and an Infantry Battalion Commander in combat, and currently serves as the Brigade Commander, 193rd Infantry Brigade, Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

            Colonel Meyerowich has had deployments to Somolia, Haiti, Central Asia and the Middle East. A decorated officer, he holds the Silver Star, Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, four Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

            Colonel Meyerowich will speak to the incoming freshman class regarding honor as they sign Honor Code for their upcoming years at Spartanburg Methodist College. The Honor Code is key to the foundation of an SMC student, and SMC places high value on this special ceremony. Ron Laffitte, Dean of Students, will also address the students and introduce the speaker.

            Spartanburg Methodist College is in its 100th year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
