Indian violinist AishuSPARTANBURG -- The Spartanburg Methodist College Centennial Concert series will host its second event of the new year on Jan. 31, a performance by world-renowned Indian violinist Aishu.

The free concert will be held at 7:30 pm in SMC's Bridges Arena and is open to the public.

Aishu is a student of the Berklee College of Music, with an emphasis on jazz performance, who earned a full scholarship to the college at the age of 13. She carries the unique distinction of being the youngest student accepted into this four-year college.

Aishu's tonal quality, spectral purity and strong bowing technique are the hallmarks of her performance style. Aishu's father, Vinod (V.R.) Venkataraman, a native of Bombay, India, is a professional Mridangam (South Indian percussion drum) player and a guest lecturer at Berklee College of Music for a clinic called "The Math behind the Music."

She will conduct a same-day workshop on Jan. 31 at SMC on ""Math and Music in Indian Music" - which is also open to the public as well.
