SMC Changes Move-In, Class Start Dates Due To Inclement Weather

SPARTANBURG - Spartanburg Methodist College on Friday announced a change of plans for the start of its spring semester, due to inclement weather early in the week of Jan. 9.
SMC officials have changed the dates for student move-in, new student orientation, and the first day of classes for the spring semester. All those events will be delayed to later dates in the week as indicated below:
Move-in times - Wednesday, and Thursday, Jan. 12 and 13
Move-in for all resident students, both returning and new, is being delayed until Wednesday and Thursday Jan 12 and 13. Returning students may move-in between 8 am and 5 pm; no student move-in will be permitted prior to Wednesday.
Orientation - Wednesday, Jan. 12
Orientation for new students will be held Jan. 12, from 2 - 4 pm, in SMC's Davis Mission Chapel. A full orientation schedule will be distributed to resident students when they check in and is also available online at www.smcsc.edu/orientation.
Thursday, Jan. 13
All SMC offices will open at 10 am on Thursday and will be open until 5 pm.
Validation Day- Friday, Jan. 14
Validation will take place on Friday, Jan. 14. Returning Sophomores will validate from 10 am until 11:30 am. Returning Freshmen will validate between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm. New students will register for classses on Friday at 2 pm.
First Day of Classes - Monday, January 17
Students' classes will start with their standard Monday class schedules.
Athletic events
The Men's basketball game against Erksine scheduled for Wednesday evening has been cancelled.
The women's basketball game against Guilford Tech for Thursday evening will be played as scheduled.
Employee schedules
Faculty and staff should report to work at 10 am on Thursday, Jan. 13 and Friday, Jan. 14.
"Our priority is safety first, for everyone. We don't want our students, faculty or staff to take any chances with their safety, so we see this as a proactive step. The predicted inclement weather may not come to fruition, but we have plans in place just in case it does," says SMC President Dr. Colleen P. Keith.
Further changes, if necessary, will be announced on the SMC website, Facebook and Twitter feeds, on the college's switchboard, and released to local media if any such changes are made.
