Spartanburg Methodist Receives $10,000 Hospital Grant
SPARTANBURG, SC – On June 14th, Spartanburg Methodist College was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Spartanburg Regional Hospital Foundation to purchase equipment for Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology courses.
The equipment purchased through these funds will be used in a newly-renovated building on campus that houses a microbiology classroom. With the addition of these classes, SMC President Dr. Colleen Keith says, “students interested in nursing and other medical professions can stay at SMC for a full two years and be in step with peers at four-year institutions when they transfer.”
The administration at SMC believes that a further advantage of these additions is that it will allow the students to take these more specialized classes earlier in their college careers. Therefore, they will be able to decide early on in whether they are truly interested in medical areas of study before moving too far through the curriculum.
The College is celebrating its 100th year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment, and the addition of courses made possible by this grant shows the continuing evolution of its offerings.
As the only residential two-year institution in the state of South Carolina, Spartanburg Methodist focuses on giving students the advantages reserved for upperclassmen at other schools in the first two years of their collegiate education. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning, and go on to pursue careers in diverse fields.
