Spartanburg Methodist College’s Annual Miss SMC Pageant Will Send Winner to Miss South Carolina
02/25/12
Spartanburg Methodist College will host their annual Miss SMC Pageant on Saturday, February 25th, at 7 pm in Camak Auditorium. This year's pageant will be an official qualifier for the Miss South Carolina Pageant.
This will be the third consecutive Miss SMC Pageant in recent years. Formerly, TII (Textile Industrial Institute) and SJC (Spartanburg Junior College) crowned a May Queen each year.
SMC President Colleen Keith remarked on the importance of this year's pageant: "This year's pageant starts a new tradition for the college and provides new opportunities for our young women: the Miss SMC competition is now a part of the larger Miss South Carolina organization and, in turn, the Miss America organization. The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. As not-for-profit organizations, both Miss South Carolina and Miss America have maintained a decades-long tradition of empowering young women to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing a forum for the expression of their opinions, talent and intelligence. Participation in such competitions provides a unique opportunity for our young women to gain life experience, work on issues of importance and enhance their personal and professional skills. We at SMC believe our young women will benefit from this partnership with the Miss South Carolina organization."
The Miss SMC winner will receive a $1000 scholarship, and will go on to compete for the Miss South Carolina crown.
Tickets can only be purchased at the door for $5.
The eight contestants are:
Jasmine Turner, sophomore from Chester, SC
