Welcome from the President
It delights me to know that you are interested in our unique and very special institution. As you browse these pages, you will learn that we are the only two-year, independent, residential college in South Carolina. As such, we offer students an opportunity to complete general education courses that are required in the first two years for most liberal arts majors.
We have intentionally developed a campus environment that both nurtures and challenges students to reach their academic potential. Our dedicated faculty and staff offer academic and personal support to help students attain their goal of earning a college degree.
Small classes and learning assistance programs at SMC enable students to excel in their academic work, thereby paving the way for trouble-free transfer to senior institutions or immediate entry into the job market. Because we concentrate our efforts and resources on freshmen and sophomores, SMC students have opportunities to develop leadership skills without having to compete with juniors and seniors for leadership positions.
We have many campus organizations that are available to all students and a wide variety of enjoyable student activities that promote student learning outside the classroom. We believe that the college experience should help students grow academically, socially, personally, and spiritually, and we focus our resources, programs, and activities to ensure that this is achieved. Our campus ministry program offers students the opportunity to celebrate their faith through our campus worship services, activities, and service opportunities.
Numerous organizations provide opportunities for students to get involved and serve others. "Service to others" is not just a slogan at SMC. It is our way of life.
After reviewing the remaining pages of our web site, I am convinced that you will understand what Spartanburg Methodist College offers those who choose to study and grow at our institution. SMC students develop life-long learning skills that serve them well after they leave this place.
I encourage you to take the first step by applying for admission to Spartanburg Methodist College. You may do so online or by calling our Admissions Office. Our Admissions and Financial Aid counselors work to make it possible for students with financial need to enroll with us.
I hope you will join us for the best two years of your life at Spartanburg Methodist College!
