Grammarly
Grammarly is a grammar tutorial program designed to evaluate writing and offer suggestions for improvements with grammar and punctuation issues. Grammarly is a complex tool and is not meant for those not willing to carefully read suggestions and decide if changes are needed or not.
Grammarly will:
- help with subject-verb agreement, pronoun reference, comma use, and many other grammatical issues
- make vocabulary suggestions
- make suggestions to avoid wordiness
- allow changes to be made within the program based on suggestions
- improve student grammar if tutorials are carefully read and followed
Remember that Grammarly is meant for assistance and not as a replacement for a human writing tutor; as such, Grammarly :
- may not catch every error
- will not fix the errors automatically
- will not help with idea/thesis generation*
- will not help with organization and transitions*
- will not help with citation format.*
*For one-on-one instruction with a live tutor please visit the Writing Center in Walker 306. The Writing Center is staffed by members of the English Department and is open from 1pm-4pm Monday through Thursday.
