Paralegal Classes
Courses offered in Spring 2012 Term:
Computer Technology and the Legal Process Relationship to Trial Presentations (R): This course features two distinct forms of instruction (Basic working knowledge of computers and typing skills are essential for success):
*Computer Technology: Emphasis will be placed on legal documents and Excel forms that are used in the law office. Students will focus on evidentiary presentation in trial (with a discussion of the range of option from boards to full tech support); students will create concepts for demonstrative evidence development; students will evaluate evidence...with discussion on how to present options for presentation based upon factors - such as type of case or the legal argument to be made; and students will learn how to set up a courtroom - with audio and video facts that affect presentation of evidence.
*Legal Process Affecting Trial Presentations: Students will focus on understanding and communicating basic concepts, facts, evidence and proof; students will obtain practical tips on the handling of evidence; students will gain an understanding of the role of causes of action in: Interviewing, Investigating, Pleadings, Discovery, ADR, Dispositive motions, Pretrial preparation, and the actual Trial; students will gain an appreciation for the Rules of Procedure, the Presentation of Evidence and Ethical Considerations; students will take note of common mistakes in trial preparation and will gain an appreciation of psychological tips to convince a jury.
Real Estate Property Law and Title Search (LS): This course features two distinct forms of instruction:
*Real Estate Property Law -- This portion of the course instructs students in property ownership and transfer. Characteristics and formats for real property titles, mortgages, liens, and contracts of sale are included.
*Real Estate Title Search -- During the last five weeks of this course, students will be introduced to the procedures involved in title examination, and will perform assigned title searches. Instruction includes demonstration of the interactions of probate law and civil litigation with title searching.
