Academic Orientation

Academic Orientation is a day-long program where students are introduced to academic life at the college. Each student is assigned a faculty member who will help guide the student in academic matters throughout their time at SMC.
Academic Orientation dates for the 2012-2013 academic year are:
-
Friday, June 22nd
-
Friday, July27th
-
Monday, August 20 (make up date only)
Registration for Academic Orientation is now open.
During Academic Orientation, students will meet with their academic advisors and plan and register for classes for the Fall semester.
On the scheduled Academic Orientation day, some students may have to take a placement test. This short test will help the advisor determine if supplemental courses are needed to enhance a student’s academic skills.
During Academic Orientation, incoming students will have the opportunity to interact with current students, staff, and faculty members. They will have the opportunity to ask questions, see campus facilities, and at the end of the day, students will leave campus with their fall schedule of classes in hand, their student ID card picture taken, and full of excitement about the year to come.
There are two Academic Orientation Days during each summer; A make-up day is provided for students who are unable to attend during the summer on the first Monday of the fall semester that freshman are on campus.
