SMC freshmen serve the community

09/21/10

Nearly 500 SMC freshmen ventured out into the Spartanburg community on Saturday, August 21st for the Freshman Day of Service.  This annual tradition, in it's 10th year, is a vital part of the campus Orientation program.  Students served at local non-profit agencies that cater to the elderly, the abused, the homeless, the sick, as well as agencies that help children and environmental causes.  It was an amazing day that generated a greater desire in students to continue to give back throughout the upcoming year and their lives.   You might even find your student in some of the pictures below!

Some comments from students about the day include:

"I enjoyed the day of service. I've always loved being able to give back to communities, especially those who give back to others themselves. The Day of Service made me think about engaging in other community service projects."

"It made me realize a lot about people that are less fortunate and made me want to participate in more activities like that."

"It made me realize that I have it made and have nothing to complain about."

" It felt great to give a helping hand."
