SMC Students Participate in the Hub City Empty Bowls Project
10/14/10
On Monday, October 11th, SMC students were invited to participate in a very special project. The Hub City Empty Bowls project is a fundraiser designed to involve everyone in the Spartanburg community in having a part in feeding the hungry. HUB-BUB, the Spartanburg Art Museum, Carolina Clay Artists, and the West Main Artists Co-Op are joinging together to sponsor the 2nd annual Hub City Empty Bowls Project. Between now and December 1st, the Spartanburg community will be making hundreds of pottery bowls which will be fired and glazed just in time to be filled with soup from local restaurants during a downtown event on January 20, 2011. The bowls will be sold to benefit Mobile Meals; an organization that fights hunger everyday in our community.
Over 100 SMC students gathered in the Fireplace Room of the student center this week to do their part. The pottery making process resulted in 144 bowls that will be used by the Hub City Empty Bowls project. This event was organized by SMC Art professor, Briles Lever.

Freshmen Benji Key and Ethan Schneider concentrate on creating a creative bowl.

Sierra Barksdale, also an SMC freshman, puts finishing touches on her bowl.
