SPARTANBURG - Spartanburg Methodist College on Friday announced a change of plans for the start of its spring semester, due to predicted inclement weather early in the week of Jan. 9.

Move-in for all resident students, both returning and new, is being delayed until Wednesday Jan 12. Returning students may move-in between 8 am and 5 pm; no student move-in will be permitted prior to Wednesday.  New student check-in is between 11 am and 12 pm in the Student Center.

Orientation  - Wednesday, Jan. 12

First day of classes - Friday, Jan. 14

The first day of classes will be Friday, Jan. 14. Students' classes will start with their standard Friday class schedules.

Athletic events

No changes are being made at this point to SMC athletic events scheduled for next week.

Employee schedules

Faculty are not required to be in their offices until Thursday, Jan. 13. Staff will follow the college's emergency plans regarding inclement weather notifications each day.

"Our priority is safety first, for everyone. We don't want our students, faculty or staff to take any chances with their safety, so we see this as a proactive step. The predicted inclement weather may not come to fruition, but we have plans in place just in case it does," says SMC President Dr. Colleen P. Keith.

Further changes, if necessary, will be announced on the SMC website, Facebook and Twitter feeds, on the college's switchboard, and released to local media if any such changes are made.
