Spartanburg Methodist College enjoys a long history of athletic excellence by producing many athletes who have attained professional status in their sport. In fact, more than 100 SMC athletes have made their way to the Pros, including Reggie Sanders, a member of the World Series Champion Arizona Diamondbacks; Mookie Wilson, who played with the 1986 World Champion New York Mets; Dwight Smith, who played with the 1995 World Champion Atlanta Braves; and four-time Gold Glove Winner Orlando Hudson.  Other SMC Alumni have reached the professional ranks in golf, softball, and basketball.

SMC’s athletic facilities include:  the Jesse L. Bridges Arena, the Eva S. Grant Softball Field, and the D. Johnston Outdoor Athletic Facilities composed of: The C.B. (Slim) Mooneyham Baseball Field, the Fred Nash Soccer Field and the William C. Buchheit Tennis Complex.

Our baseball program consistently reaches the national championships and is traditionally ranked as one of the best two-year college programs in the nation. Our softball team has made numerous trips to National Championships. Our men’s basketball team has been ranked in the top five nationally six times, and the men’s and women’s soccer programs together have held the titles of South District Champions, Carolina District Champions, Region 10 Champions, and a National Championship.
