Spartanburg Methodist College has one Commencement ceremony at the end of spring semester each year. Participation in the ceremony requires a cumulative 2.0 or higher GPA, and is available to May graduates and potential Summer  School graduates.  Summer School graduates can lack no more than seven hours of degree requirements,  and must be pre-registered in the College’s Summer School. December graduates from the prior year are also invited to participate in the ceremony. The student’s last classes must be in residence at Spartanburg Methodist College to qualify for participation in the ceremony.

Pre-Graduation Instructions:

Potential graduates must attend the Graduates’ Meeting in early February to order their cap / gown for the ceremony. Instructions will be included in the cap / gown packet for graduates.

Parents and Visitors Attending Commencement Services:

Based on the limited capacity of the Bridges Arena,  students will be allowed to invite six guests to attend the Commencement program.  Six tickets will be mailed to the student’s home address prior to the ceremony.  Guests must present a ticket to be allowed into the event.  Family members are encouraged to arrive at the Jesse L. Bridges Arena and be seated at least 30 minutes before the ceremony begins. Once the Arena is full, based on capacity and fire code regulations, we will begin seating guests in the over-flow facility next door in Camak Auditorium, where we will have a large screen projection of the ceremony. No one will be allowed to save seats in the Bridges Arena. In order to reduce noise and preserve the dignity of the ceremony, persons seated in Bridges Arena who leave during the ceremony will not be allowed to return to the Arena until the conclusion of the ceremony. Anyone who arrives after the ceremony begins will have to be seated in the over-flow facility. If possible, we request that families not bring children under the age of eight to the ceremony.
