About E2 Campus Alert
Spartanburg Methodist College uses an emergency alert system, powered by Omnilert Network e2Campus, to notify users in a timely manner of emergencies and weather-related closings and delays – via mobile phones, pagers, e-mails, Web browsers and other wireless devices, such as PDAs.
Each SMC-issued student, faculty and staff email address is automatically enrolled in the system. Those individuals are automatically considered Existing Users.

Need to manage your existing account?
Existing users (SMC students, faculty and staff) can login to reconfigure their account, add/remove devices or email addresses, or add/remove RSS subscriptions or change how you receive your messages.
Prerequisites for Registration with a cell phone or mobile device (if not yet configured):
- Your mobile phone/device must be able to receive text messages and your service plan must support receiving them. If you are unsure, please check with your service provider.
- You must have your mobile phone/device present during signup. The registration process will require you to enter a 4-digit verification code that is sent to your phone.
Note: Upon being registered, your phone will receive a text message with a 4-digit number. Enter this number on the confirmation page. After completing this step, your cell phone or mobile device registration will become active immediately.

* About passwords: Faculty and staff will need to contact the Help Desk for their initial password. You must reset your password on your initial login to a new password of your choice; Student passwords will mirror your SMC network login password, unless you change your E2campus login password in the existing user interface.

Who can get SMC e2Campus Alerts?
SMC e2Campus alerts are designed for students, faculty, and staff. If you are an SMC student, faculty or staff, your SMC-issued email address has already been enrolled in the SMC e2Campus Alerts system. Students, faculty, staff are considered existing users – students can add a cell phone number or email address for a parent under their own existing user account.
How will I receive the alerts?
If you are an SMC student, faculty or staff, any alerts issued will go directly to your SMC-issued email address which you can check through your preferred method of accessing that email account. Alerts can also be sent to additional addresses (mobile device, additional email, RSS) if you have configured them through Existing User Management.
Why should I subscribe to SMC e2Campus Alerts?
SMC e2Campus Alerts subscribers will be sent time-sensitive messages about emergencies on or in the vicinity of the SMC campus; or inclement weather affecting or in the vicinity of SMC. By subscribing to the SMC e2Campus Alerts you will be aware of any official announcements, rather than any inaccurate information that may be spread through word of mouth or unofficial communications.
What do I need to subscribe to SMC e2Campus Alerts and how much does it cost?
There is no additional charge for SMC e2Campus Alerts. Its cost is built into the operating budget of SMC and is paid for through student fees at the beginning of the semester.
- For text messages, you will need a cell phone with text messaging capabilities. Individual cell phone plans will apply normal charges for the text message.
- For e-mail subscriptions, all you need is a valid email account and a method to access that email whether through your computer or mobile device
- For RSS subscriptions, you will need a computer or mobile device with software that is designed to import and display RSS messages
Do I need to install software and/or hardware in order to receive SMC e2Campus Alerts?
No, you do not need any additional software or hardware. To sign up, all you need is a computer or mobile device with an internet connection. Certain mobile devices may need to have internet services activated if they are not already and/or those services added into your service package. Mobile devices must have their text messaging service activated to receive text messages.
How do I sign up for SMC e2Campus Alerts?
- If you are an SMC student, faculty, or staff member you are already signed up through your SMC-issued email address. To add additional email addresses or a mobile device to your subscription, you will need to login to the Existing User Management tool . Your login credentials are the same as your SMC email login credentials.
- Students can add in a parent’s cell phone number or email address under their own account in the Existing User Management tool
When configuring your subscription to work with a cell phone or mobile device, you need to have that handy to complete the online registration form. You will be asked to create your own user name and password. You will receive a text message in that will include 4-digit validation code. You must enter the validation code on the confirmation web page and hit the “Validate” button. You then will automatically be forwarded to a “Thank You” page. The validate button will create a personal account for new users, where you should go next and enter your preferred email address. This is where you will log in to update personal contact information.
What if I do not receive/enter the 4-digit validation code?
If you do not enter the 4-digit validation code, an account is created but you will not receive alerts. To receive alerts, you must login and re-validate your phone. If you do not receive the code, please contact support (see previous question).
What if I am not able to register?

What will the SMC e2Campus Alerts tell me?
A short text message or email will state the type of threat and indicate suggested action. Because the messages must be brief, you will always be directed to go to the college Web site (www.smcsc.edu) where details will be available.
How many SMC e2Campus Alerts text messages will I receive?
The exact number is difficult to predict, but there should be very few. You will receive messages within seconds of their transmission. If your cell phone is turned off when a text message is sent, you will receive it after you turn your cell phone on, but only if you do so within seven days from the original transmission.
What if I change my cell phone service provider?
When you change cell/mobile phone providers but keep your existing mobile number it is considered “ported.” Depending on the mobile phone provider, it may take up to 30 days for the SMC e2Campus Alerts system to be updated. During the “ported” time period, you may not receive alerts because the alerts are sent to the old mobile provider, which may not forward them. You will find details on how to solve this problem and immediately register when you log on to get registration information.
People can text me however I cannot receive a SMC e2Campus alerts. What could be the reason for that?
There are two types of text messaging:
- Mobile Originated (sending a text message from one phone to another)
- Mobile Terminated (a non-cell phone to a cell phone)
You may be able to receive Mobile-to-mobile messaging however it appears that mobile terminated messaging is not activated on your account.
How can I opt-out of SMC e2Campus Alerts?
Login to your SMC e2Campus Existing User Management for detailed instructions. You cannot opt an SMC email address out of the alert system
Will SMC e2Campus Alerts be posted on other online resources?
SMC e2Campus Alerts are configured to be posted to the main Facebook page operated by the college, and also to its Twitter page ( www.twitter.com/smcsc ) . The configuration of SMC e2Campus Alerts with those resources allows for almost instantaneous communication.
Will my phone number be kept private? I won’t receive spam messages through SMC e2Campus Alerts, will I?
Cell phone numbers and email addresses registered with SMC e2Campus Alerts are kept strictly confidential. You will not receive any spam through SMC e2Campus Alerts. We enforce a ZERO SPAM policy which clearly prohibits unsolicited messages, and SMC e2Campus Alerts does not sell the contact information of our subscribers to third party marketers.
