Part-time Evening Library Assistant

The evening library assistant will provide assistance to the reference librarian in all phases of evening library services. Position will be approximately 22-28 hours per week, including Sunday afternoons and evenings, and weekend evenings Monday-Thursday (primarily during the fall and spring semesters) based on the College’s academic calendar, holiday schedule, and library schedule. Position is limited to less than 1,000 hours per fiscal year. No benefits.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • The evening library assistant will provide assistance to the reference librarian in all phases of evening library services, Sunday through Thursday.
  • Is responsible for opening the library on Sunday evenings, and assists with closing the library Sunday through Thursday.
  • In the absence of the reference librarian, serves as person in charge of the library building and circulation area.
  • Assists the reference librarian and campus safety with providing security for the building and enforcing library rules/regulations.
  • Assists in the supervision and training of evening work study student assistants.
  • Assists with the ordering, cataloging, and processing of materials.
  • Provides basic tech support for library computers, software, printers, copiers, etc.
  • Assists the reference librarian with providing basic reference services by developing familiarity with all library databases, software, resources, and equipment.
  • Assists in the shelving, shelf reading, inventory, and weeding of all library materials.
  • Assists the reference librarian in compiling usage statistics and reports.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  •  Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs as well as a willingness to learn new technology.
  •  Ability to communicate with and work well with all members of the library team.
  •  Basic knowledge of library software, systems, and processes.

Adjunct Librarian – One semester, part-time temporary position.

Adjunct Librarian

One semester, part-time temporary position.

The primary purpose of this position is to make sure that library instruction classes are planned and taught while the library director/head of instruction is on maternity leave during the Fall 2015 semester.  The adjunct librarian will staff the reference desk approximately 10 hours per week and teach all library instruction classes in the fall as requested by faculty  Classes are general held between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Residence Hall Director (Part-time)

The Residence Hall Director is a member of the Department of Housing and Residence Life Professional Staff and reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life.  Primary areas of responsibility include: staff development, programming and student supervision.

This live-in position has overall responsibility for a residence hall housing college freshman and sophomores.  Residence Hall Directors are challenged to:

  • maintain a positive living-learning environment in the residence halls that supports the college’s mission
  • establish and foster staff training, development, and community building in addition to mentoring students
  • intervene in student conduct violations and investigate incidents and issues of disciplinary actions. The position requires primarily evening duties; candidates are permitted to have other daytime commitments. Bachelor’s degree, demonstrated leadership ability, strong organization and management skills, assertive and empathetic communication style, and experience with college residence life are strongly preferred. Position to begin July 27, 2015.
