About me:
My name is Kelly Tillinghast. I was born and raised in Boiling Springs, South Carolina. I am a 2004 graduate of Boiling Springs High School. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Lander University in 2008 and my Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration from Columbia College in 2013.

I joined the SMC Admissions staff in April of 2010 and have loved every second of it! As a Spartanburg native, I love being able to work with students right here in town. I consider the transition from High School to College to be one of the most important times in a person’s life and will do whatever I can to help them make the best decision for their future. I love meeting new students and their families and would love to talk to you about how SMC can be the first step in your college career.

I have been married for 6 years and we have one daughter named Lilly.  We are Clemson fans who love the beach, spending time with our family and being involved with our church.

What is a piece of Advice that you would give a new student coming to college?

Get started early, Take your SAT/ACT’s and begin your research at least by your Junior Year. Visit as many campuses as you can and keep your options open. You may find a perfect fit that you never knew existed. Also, start looking for scholarships early!

What is your favorite event or activity on campus at SMC?

My favorite thing on campus is our Guest Fest dates because it lets us show prospective students and their families what all SMC is about and why we feel it is their best option for college. I also enjoy Orientation days and Freshman Move in Day. We get to watch students we met at Guest Fest register for their fall classes and begin their first year of college. It brings our job to its full circle.

Where do you like to hang out off campus in Spartanburg?

We love to get breakfast at Strawberry Hill, play at the local parks, and spend summer weekends on Lake Bowen with friends.

What is a quote that encourages or inspires you?

“For with God, nothing shall be impossible.” – Luke 1:37

What have you been listening to lately?

Usually Pandora or Spotify. I like variety!

How do you spend your free time?

When I am not at work I spend most of my time at home with my family. With a toddler at home, most of our time is spend playing with baby dolls, watching Disney Movies and coloring. When we can, we love to go to the zoo or small beach vacations or just being surrounded by our friends and family.

What is your Favorite book or Movie?

I love harry Potter.
