McGuirk Signs with SMC Softball

Fort Mill Athlete Signs Letter of Intent

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  Ashley McGuirk of Fort Mill has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on the Lady Pioneers Softball Team for the 2006-2007 Season.

Head Softball Coach, Rick Pauly, is pleased about the signing of McGuirk because she can be a real “difference maker” for the program. McGuirk was an All-State Softball Team selection in 2005 and All-Region both her sophomore and junior seasons for the Fort Mill High School Softball Team. Throughout her career she garnered numerous high school and summer travel ball accolades. What Pauly likes most about McGuirk is her versatility.

“Not only is Ashley a dominating pitcher with a great riseball, but she is also an outstanding shortstop and hits with power. Ashley is very instinctive on defense and should make an immediate impact as a freshman,” Pauly said.

SMC plays in the competitive Region X of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) with teams from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Their upcoming competition also includes numerous games with area NCAA Divison I and II teams.

McGuirk is the daughter of Tom and Kim McGuirk.
