Phillips Signs with SMC Softball
Fort Dorchester Athlete Signs Letter of Intent
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Rachel Phillips signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on the Lady Pioneers Softball Team for the 2006-2007 Season.
Head Softball Coach, Rick Pauly, is excited about the signing of Phillips because she is both a talented player and a good student. Phillips is a three year letter winner for the Fort Dorchester High School Softball Team. Throughout her career she has garnered numerous high school and summer travel ball accolades. What Pauly likes most about Phillips is her ability to play multiple positions.
“Rachel is a very accomplished pitcher, but she is also an outstanding first baseman. She mixes great softball instincts with great athleticism,” said Pauly, optimistic that Phillips will see lots of mound time as a freshman and will be “an impact player” her first season.
SMC plays in the competitive Region X of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) with teams from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Their upcoming competition also includes numerous games with area NCAA Divison I and II teams.
Phillips is the daughter of Jeff and Tilley Phillips.
