Jackson Named All-Region

Sophomore from Columbia “Has Come a Long Way”

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  Jarvis Jackson, a sophomore guard from Columbia, was chosen as Second Team All Region 10 player in the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association).

“Jarvis has come a long way,” said Rob Burke, Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Spartanburg Methodist College. “If you’re earning second team all-region you’re one of 10 of the best players in our league. It’s a great honor for him,” added Burke, noting that Jackson has particularly stood out in the team since January. “In order to win, you’ve got to have good players on your team. That’s how it has been and Jarvis huge focal point on that.”

The team is second-seed going into the regional tournament at Kinston, N.C. Jackson scored 17 points in the first game of the Region 10 Tournament at Kinston, where the Pioneers defeated Rockingham Community College 81-69. During the regular season, the Pioneers were 12-4 in the conference and 20-10 overall.  The Lady Pioneers are also second-seeded going into regional play.

Phillip Buckson, a freshman forward from Gaffney, was chosen as Region 10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Year and First Team All Region 10. This is the first time a Pioneer player has won such an honor since James Scott in 1992.
