“While we did not win, being a finalist for this award was such an honor,” says Day, who also serves as POPS advisor.
“Most schools nominate themselves for such awards. We did not. In fact, we do not know who nominated us, so that makes being a finalist all that much sweeter. The students on SMC’s programming board do work hard and put on great programs and activities on a small budget, especially compared to other campuses similar in size and purpose. SMC’s Dean of Students, Dr. Art Hartzog, is also quite pleased with Ms. Day’s award and the programming nomination.

Attending the conference along with Day were POPS members Wanda Sherlock, Halsey Carey, Ray Pugh, and Josh Williams.
Conference participants had the opportunity to attend educational sessions on topics such as late night programming, personal motivation, academic success, and event publicity.
While attending the conference, the SMC participants had the opportunity to hear new bands and solo artists, comedians and novelty acts, and many dynamic speakers. Some well-known public figures also made an appearance at this year’s conference including Bob Guiney, star of season four of ABC’s “The Bachelor”, Dennis Haskins of the 90s sitcom “Saved by the Bell,” Rupert Boneham, from CBS’s “Survivor,” several cast members of MTV’s “The Real World”, and hip-hop superstar and platinum recording artist Bone Crusher.
APCA currently has over 350 school members nationwide. Last year, more than 300 schools and more than 1,200 students and advisors attended conferences and workshops providing their boards with quality, affordable programming services.
APCA campus activities programming conferences provide student programming boards an excellent opportunity to network with other campuses, meet new programming vendors, find new talent for campus activities programs and share ideas with and learn from other schools.
