SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Stacey Parris recently resigned as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Spartanburg Methodist College.
Parris coached four seasons as head coach of the Spartanburg Methodist College women’s basketball team. Prior to that, she served one year at Converse College as the women’s top assistant during the 2001-02 season.
A native of Inman, Parris played for Chapman High School before being recruited by Wofford College, where she was a four-year starter and Wofford’s all-time three-pointer leader in 2001. Coach Parris was a member of the 2000 team that led Wofford to the program’s first win over rival Furman and SoCon powers Appalachian State, UTC, Georgia Southern, and East Tennessee State. That year the Terriers advanced to the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament. Parris graduated from Wofford with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Education and began her graduate studies at Converse.
Last Season, SMC complied a record of 12-18 overall 5-3 in the conference after the Pioneers battled injuries and were faced with finishing the season with only eight healthy players. Despite the lack of numbers, SMC still managed to finish third in the Carolina’s Junior College Conference and advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
In a statement to SMC staff and faculty, Parris said the will never forget her days as a Pioneer. Her last day at SMC is April 6. According to SMC Athletic Director, Mark Perdue, a search for her successor will begin this week.
