Anderson Young Alumnus of the Year

’93 Grad’s Military Service Recognized

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  Spartanburg Methodist College recognized Sterling Anderson II with the Young Alumnus of the Year Award April 1 during Alumni Weekend.

Anderson is a Spartanburg native who graduated from SMC in 1993 cum laude, before going on to earn a B.A. degree at Wofford and a law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. Anderson practiced law with Huff and Cauthen LLC in Columbia. He then joined the law firm of Montgomery, Patterson, Potts, and Willard.

Following his father’s military service, Anderson joined the South Carolina National Guard, where he received a commission as First Lieutenant. But like many who initially signed up as “weekend warriors,” Anderson’s military service moved front-and-center. Anderson currently serves as an Assistant Judge Advocate with the 263rd Army and Air Missile Defense Command in Anderson, S.C. He is currently stationed at the Joint Air Defense Operations Center (JADOC) and is Jusdge Advocate and Assistant Operations Officer for JADOC.

“I want to thank each and every one of you for the opportunity that you have given me,” said Anderson to an audience of SMC faculty, staff, fellow alums, and members of his family during the Alumni Weekend Awards Luncheon. Anderson thanked Shannon, his wife, for being supportive of him. Anderson concluded, “It is certainly humbling to get an award for doing something you not only enjoy doing but it is your duty to do it.”
