McDonald Hired As SMC’s Newest Vice President
SPARTANBURG, SC – Spartanburg Methodist College has hired a
local Certified Public Accountant as the College’s Vice President for Business Affairs.
Eric McDonald, of Spartanburg, assumed the role last week. As Vice-President for Business Affairs, he will be responsible for and oversee all financial, facilities, and information technology aspects of the College’s operations.
“Eric offers many important qualities that will bring strength to our institution immediately and in the years to come. His pleasant disposition, commitment to the mission of our College, and great knowledge of the area of endowment allocations, financial affairs, budget preparation, and budget management will enable us to continue our growth as an institution. We are very happy to have him as a member of our academic community,” says SMC President Dr. Charles Teague.
McDonald most recently worked in public accounting for McAbee, Talbert, Halliday & Co. He previously worked with CPA firms in Wilmington, NC and Greensboro, NC.
“I’ve been dreaming of something like this for quite a while. I am tremendously excited about this opportunity and about working with such a fine institution. Spartanburg Methodist College has a lot to be proud of and I feel privileged to be a part of its tradition,” says McDonald.
McDonald has a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Mercer University and a Master’s of Divinity from the Southeastern Seminary. He also attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to prepare for the CPA exam and successfully completed the exam in 1994
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants
He and his wife Melinda have lived in Spartanburg for more than eight years. They have one son and are members of St. Matthews Episcopal Church. In his spare time, McDonald enjoys bicycling and hiking.
