Wiles and Shirley Sign with SMC Softball
Crescent High School Athletes Sign Letter of Intent
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Whitney Wiles of Iva and Bree Shirley of Star, softball players at Crescent High School, have signed National Letters of Intent to compete on the Lady Pioneers for the 2006-2007 season.
SMC Head Softball Coach, Rick Pauly, states “these are two outstanding players with a solid softball background from another of Coach Gary Adams’ highly successful Crescent program. I love bringing in kids from programs with great structure and discipline.” Pauly said both players are outstanding outfielders with exceptional speed and the ability to slap or hit away from the left side. He expects Shirley and Wiles to be integral next season and add the much-needed offensive speed to put pressure on the opposition defense.
“Their speed will be a welcomed addition for the all-important short game,” commented Pauly, adding that both players have achieved high academic marks and combine that with being very active in other extra curricular activities.
SMC plays in the competitive Region X of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) with teams from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Their upcoming competition also includes numerous games with area NCAA Divison I and II teams.
Bree Shirley is the daughter of Sandra and Franky White and Bob and Robin Shirley. Whitney Wiles is the daughter of Helen and Don Wiles.
