Pioneer Softball players Gain Region X Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Three Spartanburg Methodist College softball players were recognized for their achievements both on the field and in the classroom.

Casey Winstead of Spartanburg Methodist College was selected to the All Region Softball team by the Region X coaches. Winstead, a graduate of Broome High School, had what Head Softball Coach Rick Pauly described as “an outstanding season” with the Lady Pioneers. “(Winstead) was the mainstay on the pitching staff and finished  the season as the teams leading hitter,” said Pauley, adding that Winstead had an outstanding season at the plate, batting .500 in Region play with a .836 slugging percentage.

Kristi Suber, a graduate of Belton Honea Path High School, was selected to the Region X All Academic team. Coach Pauly commented that, in addition to being an excellent softball player, Suber is also a straight “A” student. Suber made a return to the playing field midway through the season after suffering a significant knee injury in the fall. “Kristi did a great job of anchoring our outfield from her center field position,” Pauley noted.

Brittney Hutchinson, also a graduate of Belton-Honea Path High School, was selected to the recently-completed Region X  All-Tournament Team. “Brittney did a great job defensively for us at shortstop and was a really tough out for us at her number 2 batting position,” said Pauly.
