SMC Athletes Receive Honors For 2007 Season

SPARTANBURG, SC – Athletes from Spartanburg Methodist College were recently recognized for their accomplishments in the 2007 Spring season. 

Baseball: 
Six players from the SMC baseball team were named to the All Region team for the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Region X. Those named to the First Team All Region include Brooks Robinson, a Sophomore from Evans, GA and graduate of Greenbriar High School; Allen Caldwell, a Freshman from Sumter and graduate of Sumter High School; Logan Bland, a Freshman from Charleston and Bishop-England High School graduate; and Trey Delk, a Sophomore from Elgin and graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School. 

SMC baseball players named to the Second Team All Region include Jacob Wallace, a Sophomore from Spartanburg and graduate of Dorman High School; and Jeff Dulaney, of Glenelg, MD. 

The Pioneers finished the regular season 44-12. They won both the District X and Eastern District titles, and are currently in Colorado for the Junior College World Series. 

Softball:

Four women were named to the Second Team All Region X softball team. Those include Anna Oswald, a Freshman from Columbia and a White Knoll High School graduate; Ashley Allen, a Sophomore from West Columbia and an Airport High School graduate; and Whitney Wiles, a Freshman from Iva and Crescent High School graduate. 

Two women were named to the Region X Softball All-Tournament Team. Those include Anna Oswald and Courtney Putnam, a Sophomore from Hendersonville, NC and graduate of East Henderson High School. 

The Women’s Softball team finished the season 18-16-1. They went 2-2 in the Region X tournament, finishing fourth in the region. 

Golf:

Pioneers golfer Matt  Jackson, a Sophomore from Gloverville, SC and a Midland Valley  High School graduate, was named to the All Region Golf Team for the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Region X. 

The Men’s golf team took first place at three out of their six tournaments this season, and placed second in the Region X tournament. 

Selections for All-Region teams are based on votes received from the Region X coaches.  

“All of our Spring sports had an outstanding season. We’re very pleased to see this many of our athletes recognized for their talents. They and their teammates all put forth a tremendous amount of effort this season,” says SMC Athletic Director Mark Perdue.
