SMC Promotes Queen To Director of Admissions
New Admissions Counselor Also Recently Hired
SPARTANBURG, SC – A new Director of Admissions has been announced at Spartanburg Methodist College, as well as the hiring of a new admissions counselor. 
Michael Queen, of Spartanburg, has been promoted to the Director of Admissions position.
In this position, he will be responsible for heading up the recruitment efforts of the admissions department, overseeing the student ambassadors, and working directly with Spartanburg County students and their parents.
Queen, 27, is a 2000 graduate of Spartanburg High School who received an Associate in Arts degree from SMC in 2002 and a Bachelor of Arts in History in 2004 from the University of South Carolina. He also received an MBA from Gardner Webb in 2007.
Queen previously worked as an admissions counselor at SMC for two and a half years and most recently has served as Director of Athletic Fundraising.

Michael has all the qualities and skills one needs to be very successful in this most important role on our campus. I am genuinely looking forward to watching Michael’s progress as he gains experience as our leader of student recruitment,” says Dan Philbeck, SMC Vice-President for Enrollment Management.
Ashley Hart, 24, of Boiling Springs, was recently hired as an admissions counselor. She will work with students and guidance counselors within a 19-county region in South Carolina, extending from Anderson to Charleston. 
Hart is a graduate of SMC with an Associate of Arts. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of South Carolina in 2007.
She previously worked for Vertis Communications as a media liaison. While at USC, she served internships with the South Carolina Aquarium, Animal Mission of the Midlands, and N-Vest USA.
“Ashley Hart, as a graduate of the College, has an intimate knowledge and insights as to what it takes to be successful as a student at SMC. She will be able to relate very well with those she is recruiting since she is a recent college graduate herself. We are excited about having Ashley as part of our recruitment team,” adds Philbeck.
Spartanburg Methodist College is in its 97th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
