Ledbetter Signs with SMC Softball

Gaffney Athlete Signs Letter of Intent

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  Jessica Ledbetter has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on the Lady Pioneers Softball Team for the 2006-2007 Season.

Head Softball Coach, Rick Pauly, is pleased about the signing of Ledbetter because of the strength of her all-around game and describes her as “a fleet outfielder with a strong throwing arm” who combines that with a high batting average and good “gap” power. Pauley adds that Ledbetter also brings a high level of academic achievement with her to SMC.

“Every game I watched (Ledbetter) play she did something outstanding,” says Pauly. Ledbetter plays centerfield for Coach Kelly Ellis’s Gaffney team that recently wrapped up their Region Championship. Coach Ellis calls Ledbetter “one of the most coachable players I have coached in my 16 years experience.”

Ledbetter is the daughter of Debbie Scoggins of Gaffney.

SMC plays in the competitive Region X of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) with teams from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Their upcoming competition also includes numerous games with area NCAA Divison I and II teams.
