Weisner Leaving SMC for Coastal Carolina Post

SMC Alum Saw Department Through Key Changes

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  Greg Weisner, Chief of Campus Safety at Spartanburg Methodist College, left May 2 to accept the position of Chief of Public Safety at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C.

Dr. Charles P. Teague, President of the College, said, “Although we regret losing a trustworthy young man who has established himself as a wonderful colleague and loyal friend, we celebrate with Greg and his beautiful family the opportunity that lies before them.”

During his tenure at SMC, Weisner worked to move his department to a higher level when it was chartered in August 2004 as a law enforcement agency in its own right. The change also meant a name change from Campus Security Department to Campus Safety Department.

Richard Tinsley began his duties May 3 as Interim Chief of Campus Safety. A search has begun for Weisner’s successor.

Greg is married to Joy Weisner and they have two children: Will and Breanna.
