Williams Signs with SMC Softball

Lancaster Athlete Signs Letter of Intent

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  Katy Williams of Lancaster has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on the Lady Pioneers Softball Team for the 2006-2007 Season.

Head Softball Coach, Rick Pauly, is very excited about the signing of Williams because she can be a “real difference maker” for the program. She has been a four year starter for a very strong Lancaster softball program.

“Katy is an outstanding power hitter,” says Pauly. “She swings the quickest bat I’ve seen in high school this year. I would not want to be a third baseman when Katy is at bat.” In addition to her offensive skills, Williams plays a solid defense at first base. Coach Pauly expects her to make an immediate impact her first season with the Pioneers.  She already has ties to SMC as her brother Matt is currently an assistant coach with the Pioneers baseball team.

SMC plays in the competitive Region X of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) with teams from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Their upcoming competition also includes numerous games with area NCAA Divison I and II teams.

Williams is the daughter of Jan and Steve Williams of Lancaster.
