SMC Announces Promotions Within Admissions Office

SPARTANBURG, SCSpartanburg Methodist College has recently made two promotions to key positions in its admissions department.

Carolyn Broome Sparks has been promoted to Associate Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid.

In that position, she is responsible for supervising the staff of both the Admissions and Financial Aid departments and assisting the Vice-President for Enrollment Management with various projects and tasks related to both departments, as well as serving as a liaison between those respective departments and students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the College.

Sparks, a 1988 graduate of SMC with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina, has worked at SMC since October 1991. She and husband Bert have one daughter and reside in Boiling Springs.

Kimberly Newton-Burgess, who has worked at SMC since May 2003, has been promoted to Director of Admissions.

As Director of Admissions, Newton-Burgess is responsible for overseeing the admissions staff and their activities related to recruitment, travel, and marketing of SMC throughout the state, as well as directing the department’s Student Ambassador Program and working with students and families from Spartanburg County.

Newton-Burgess is a 2003 graduate of Lander University with a B.S. in History and a 2007 magna cum laude graduate of Converse College, with a Masters of Liberal Arts. She and husband Josh live in Spartanburg and have one son.

Mrs. Sparks and Mrs. Newton-Burgess bring outstanding skills to their new positions of responsibility and both have a firm belief in the mission of Spartanburg Methodist College.
