Johanson Signs with SMC Softball

Fort Dorchester Athlete Signs Letter of Intent

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  Ashley Johanson of North Charleston has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on the Lady Pioneers Softball Team for the 2006-2007 Season.

SMC’s head softball coach, Rick Pauly, is excited about the signing of Johanson, noting that she is both a talented player and excellent student. Johanson recently moved from Virginia where she was an All-District and All-Region Player in the Tidewater area. She continued her outstanding achievement  in 2006 with Fort Dorchester High School.

“Ashley is an outstanding outfielder with lots of speed. She incorporates that speed into her hitting where she bats from the left side and is very good at pressuring the defense with her ability to slap hit, bunt for a base hit, or hit for power. She is a real triple threat on offense,” said Pauly.

“Ashley is exactly the type of student-athlete we are attempting to recruit to SMC,” says Pauly. She has a history of high academic achievement, receiving a High School Academic Excellence Award.”

Johanson is the daughter of Gail and Ben Johanson of North Charleston, S.C.
