Paralegal Scholarship Named In Honor Of Judge C. Bruce Littlejohn

SPARTANBURG, SC –  A source of scholarship funds for students in Spartanburg Methodist College’s Paralegal Certificate Program was recently renamed in memory of Judge C. Bruce Littlejohn.

The Spartanburg County Professional Assistant Program Scholarship Fund is now The Honorable C. Bruce Littlejohn Memorial Scholarship for Spartanburg Methodist College Paralegal Students. This scholarship is supported by funds given to and managed by the Spartanburg County Foundation.

The scholarship will be awarded to worthy students in the SMC Paralegal Certification Program to assist with their tuition.

“The Honorable Judge Bruce Littlejohn was the embodiment of justice and mercy in one human being. Spartanburg Methodist College was fortunate to draw upon his expertise in the law during his service on the Paralegal Advisory Committee,” says SMC President Dr. Charles Teague.

Judge Littlejohn was a member of the Paralegal Advisory Committee since its inception in 1997 at Converse College. When the program was transferred to SMC, Judge Littlejohn continued to serve on the College’s Paralegal Advisory Committee until his death in April.

In recent years, Littlejohn was a keynote speaker at a graduation ceremony for the SMC Paralegal Certification Program and served as a judge for the program’s Arbitration/Mediation class.

“Wherever he went, people knew they were in the presence of greatness when they met this outstanding Christian gentleman,” Teague says of Judge Littlejohn.

“We are a better institution because of his support and presence. It is fitting and appropriate that the College honor his memory by renaming the paralegal scholarship The Honorable C. Bruce Littlejohn Memorial Scholarship for Spartanburg Methodist College Paralegal Students,” adds Teague.

Littlejohn was a member of the S.C. House of Representatives and Speaker of the House prior to his 39-year judicial career. He also was a Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. Following his retirement, he served as a judge in the S.C. Court of Appeals for more than 10 years.
