Thompson Signs with SMC Softball
Darlington Athlete Signs Letter of Intent
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Amanda Thompson of Darlington has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on the Lady Pioneers Softball Team for the 2006-2007 Season.
Amanda is a great addition to our Lady Pioneer Softball Team, says Head Coach Rick Pauly, adding that she has proven herself both on the athletic field and in the classroom. While competing for the Darlington High School softball team she attended the Mayo High School For Math, Science and Technology where she is an honor roll student.
Pauly adds that Thompson is a versatile softball player who is comfortable at all outfield positions and at the catching position. Thompson was a key player on the Darlington High School softball team that won the 2006 Lower State Championship.
“She combines real hustle with outstanding speed which makes her a real asset in the outfield and a threat on the basepaths,” noted Pauly.
In addition to softball, Thompson has been a varsity volleyball and tennis player. Her extra curricular activities include Key Club, Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, F.C.A., and Drama Club.
SMC plays in the competitive Region X of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) with teams from across the Carolinas. Their upcoming competition also includes numerous games with area NCAA Divison I and II teams.
Thompson is the daughter of Libby and Jerry Thompson of Darlington, S.C.
