SMC Adds Assistant Athletic Trainer Through SRHS Partnership 

SPARTANBURG, SC – An Assistant Athletic Trainer has recently been brought on board at Spartanburg Methodist College through the College’s continued partnership with Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. 

Dawn Anthony, 25, the new assistant athletic trainer, began her new duties at SMC with tDawn Anthonyhe start of the 2007-2008 athletic season. 

“Dawn will be a huge addition to the health care of student-athletes at SMC.  Having two full-time athletic trainers will provide more thorough care for all athletes during each season.  We are very thankful for the help Spartanburg Regional has provided us with improving our sports medicine care,” says Mark Mancebo, SMC’s head athletic trainer. 

Anthony, a Pennsylvania native, is a 2004 graduate of Slippery Rock University with a B.S. in Athletic Training. She earned her Master's in Sports Medicine in 2007 from the University of Pittsburgh. She was hired by SRHS in the summer of 2007.   

Anthony’s interest in sports medicine was sparked during her high school soccer career. She currently resides in Spartanburg. Her other interests and hobbies include dogs, running, and scrapbooking.

“Two of my biggest interests are in sports and medicine. Working in this field allows me to experience both and provide assistance to the student athletes at Spartanburg Methodist College. I am enjoying working at the College and look forward to contributing to the growth of the College’s athletic training program,” says Anthony. 

SMC athletic director Mark Perdue adds, “This a great partnership with Spartanburg Regional and SMC and will benefit the entire Athletic Department for years to come.”  

SMC has a long-standing relationship with Spartanburg Regional Sports Medicine, which provides many benefits and additional medical expertise for its student athletes to utilize. 

 “We are very excited to welcome Miss Anthony to the Spartanburg Regional Sports Medicine team and to the upstate. Dawn is the most recent addition to an organization with a ten year history of providing quality healthcare to student athletes throughout Spartanburg County. With the addition of Dawn, Regional Sports Medicine reaffirms its commitment to providing support to the athletic programs at Spartanburg Methodist College,” says Matt Lyden, Spartanburg Regional Sports Medicine Manager. 

Spartanburg Methodist College is in its 96th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
