SMC Golf Finishes A Combined 5th At Tusculum
Men’s Team Comes In 6th, Women’s 5th
SPARTANBURG – The SMC men’s and women’s golf teams finished a combined 5th place at the Tusculum College Fall Invitational this week as the only non-Division II school competing in the event.
The Pioneer men and women’s teams shot 592 and 670 respectively, coming in one spot ahead of Limestone College’s combined score on the leaderboard.
The SMC Men’s team, currently ranked 15th in the National Junior College Athletic Association, placed 6th among 10 teams; the women placed 5th among nine teams.
SMC’s Matt Jackson, a Sophomore from Gloverville, SC, placed sixth out of 58 on the men’s side of the tournament scoring one under par and three over for a combined 144. Jackson has led the SMC men in three of four tournaments this season.
Freshman women’s team player Megan Bradley, from Mayesville, SC, placed 10th out of 45, shooting nine over and seven over for a combined 160.
“To be playing this well against the caliber of teams we’ve gone up against says a lot about the talent of our players, as well as our recruiting efforts,” says Mark Perdue, SMC Athletic Director and Men’s Golf coach.
“Both our teams are competing very aggressively against Division II schools and holding very steady. We’re very pleased with their performance this season,” adds Perdue.
Next up for the SMC men’s team is the USC-Lancaster Tournament in Lancaster on Oct. 12; the women’s team’s next matchup is at the SMC Fall Invitational on Oct. 28-29 at Cleghorn Plantation in Rutherfordton, NC, where both teams will close out the fall season.
