SMC Men’s Golf Places 10th At Coker Invitational
Men’s Team Currently Ranked 21st, Women’s Team Ranked 8th

SPARTANBURG –  The Spartanburg Methodist College men’s golf team came in with a 10th place tie at the Coker College Invitational this week, over local rival Limestone College and two other National Junior College Athletic Association Region X teams, in a total field of 21.

The men finished the tournament 306-308-614, with Freshman Daniel Hardy, of Lexington, SC, leading the team with a 72-76-148 and a tie at 21st among individual players.

The men’s team was ranked 21st in the NJCAA Division I polls released Monday, going in to the Coker Invitational.

“Both our teams have played tremendously well this season. Most of our competition has been at the NCAA Division II level and that has really helped our players strengthen their game. We’re very pleased with their performance and are tremendously excited to be ranked where we are,” says SMC Men’s Golf Coach Mark Perdue.

The SMC women’s team, in its inaugural season, currently sits at 8th in the NJCAA Division I women’s polls.

“To have a first-year team ranked in the Top 10 nationally is phenomenal. These young ladies have played their hearts out and are on track for great things in the future,” says Women’s Golf Coach Kyle Owings.

The SMC teams compete next in the college’s Fall Invitational on Oct. 28-29 at Cleghorn Plantation in Rutherfordton, NC.
