SMC Cross Country Teams Both Ranked Going Into Region Championships
Men’s Team At No. 10, Women’s Ranked 19th

SPARTANBURG – The Spartanburg Methodist College cross country teams are headed into the National Junior College Athletic Association Region X championship on Oct. 26 both ranked in the Top 25 nationally.

In rankings released Wednesday and following strong finishes at the Furman Invitational last weekend, the SMC men’s team remains steady at No. 10 in the NJCAA , while the women’s team remains at No. 19.

Sophomore runner Becca Prichard, of Clemson, SC, placed 2nd in a field of 177 at the Furman Invitational with an 18:14 finish in the women’s 5K.

The Men’s team finished 13th out of a field of 18, with a combined team finish above local Spartanburg rivals Wofford and USC Upstate.

Sophomore Jeremy Vangsnes, of Cowpens, S.C., finished at 49th place out of a field of 148 with a time of 27:48 in the men’s 8K.

Runners D.J. Mattison, Stephen Odom, and Josh Brooks also finished in the Top 100.

The NJCAA Region X Championships will be held in conjunction with the Brevard College Invitational on Oct. 26 in Brevard, N.C.
