Lady Pioneers Set For NJCAA Volleyball Nationals
No. 15 SMC Will Take On No. 2 Miami Dade College In First Round
SPARTANBURG –The No. 15 ranked Spartanburg Methodist Lady Pioneers will take on No. 2 ranked Miami Dade College on Thursday, Nov. 15 in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s 2007 Volleyball Championships in Council Bluffs, IA.
The Pioneers (19-2, 25-2) clinched the Region X title last weekend after defeating Pitt Community College at SMC.
This is the first time the Lady Pioneers have returned to the nationals since 1984.
The Lady Pioneers leave Tuesday for the tournament, which will run from Nov. 15 to Nov. 17.
“Our volleyball team had an amazing season – it was the strongest I’ve ever seen them play. We wish them luck at nationals and know that they will represent Spartanburg Methodist College well,” says Athletic Director Mark Perdue.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 97th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
