SMC Wrestling Ranked No. 3 In NJCAA Preseason Polls
Three Sophomores, Two Freshman Receive Top 10 Individual Rankings
SPARTANBURG – The Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers recently received a Top 5 preseason ranking in Division I of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
With a No. 3 Division I preseason ranking, the Pioneers expect to put some impressive wins on the board this year.
“It says great things about our wrestling program for it be ranked at No. 3 nationally. It shows that people know what our wrestlers are capable of,” says SMC Athletic Director Mark Perdue.
The team’s three 2007 All Americans each have received preseason rankings in their respective weight classes.
Those include Tim Burdine, a sophomore from Brandon, FL, who is ranked No. 1 in the 149 weight range; John Murray, a sophomore from Auburndale, FL , who is ranked No. 3 in the 157 weight range; and sophomore Jeremiah Webb, from Beaufort, SC, who is ranked No. 2 in the 197 weight range.
Also receiving preseason rankings are Wes Beck, a freshman from, Greer, SC, who is ranked 7th in the 174 weight range, and freshman Dondricus Anderson, of Montrose, GA, who is ranked 10th in the 285 weight range.
“They’re looking forward to another successful season and a return trip to nationals.With the caliber of wrestlers we have, this team is going to have a very impressive season,” adds Perdue.
The SMC Wrestling team placed 9th in the NJCAA Division I National Championships in the 2006-2007 season.
