7 SMC Players Selected For All Region X Teams
5 Soccer Players, 2 Volleyball Players Chosen

SPARTANBURG, SC – Seven Spartanburg Methodist College players have been chosen as 2006 members of All-Region teams for Region X, Division I of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Nathan Arroyo, a freshman forward for SMC, was ranked second in the men’s selections. Freshman SMC goalkeeper Katelyn Gristick was ranked fourth in the women’s selections.

Arroyo is the third leading scorer for the SMC men’s teams since 1995. Shane Abbott is the second highest all-time scorer for the SMC men’s teams.

The SMC men’s soccer team finished the 2006 regular season 10-6-3, placing 2nd in Region X. The SMC women’s soccer team finished 3-10-3 placing 3rd in Region X.

Volleyball Selections

Two SMC women were chosen as All-Region volleyball players:

Sophomore Nikki Golston was ranked 5th out of the field of 13 All Region selectees. Bouchillon was ranked 11th.

The SMC volleyball team went 11-9 in the 2006 season, closing with a 12-10 record after the Region X tournament and placing 6th in the Region.

Selections for All-Region teams are based on votes received from the Region X coaches.  The top three players both in men’s and women’s soccer will be nominated for All-American recognition.

 “We’re very pleased that we have this many student athletes that have been selected for the All Region soccer and volleyball teams. We’re very proud of each of these men and women. Each have their own unique strengths and talents and we are assured that each student athlete represents Spartanburg Methodist College very well at the regional level,” says SMC Athletic Director Mark Perdue.
